Karen Barad, theoretische Physikerin und feministische Theoretikerin, stellt in diesem Band ihre Theorie des agentiellen Realismus vor. Der agentielle Realismus, der die Welt als Ganzes und nicht als aus getrennten nat{\"u}rlichen und sozialen Bereichen bestehend betrachtet, ist zugleich eine neue Erkenntnistheorie, Ontologie und Ethik. Der Ausgangspunkt f{\"u}r Barads Analyse ist der philosophische Rahmen des Quantenphysikers Niels Bohr. Barad erweitert und {\"u}berarbeitet Bohrs philosophische Ansichten im Lichte der aktuellen Forschung in den Bereichen Physik, Wissenschaftsforschung und Wissenschaftsphilosophie sowie der feministischen, poststrukturalistischen und anderen kritischen Gesellschaftstheorien. In diesem Prozess {\"u}berarbeitet sie das Verst{\"a}ndnis von Raum, Zeit, Materie, Kausalit{\"a}t, Handeln, Subjektivit{\"a}t und Objektivit{\"a}t erheblich. In einer agentenrealistischen Sichtweise besteht die Welt aus Verflechtungen "sozialer" und "nat{\"u}rlicher" Akteure, wobei die Unterscheidung zwischen den beiden aus spezifischen Intra-Aktivit{\"a}ten hervorgeht. Intra-Aktivit{\"a}t ist eine unersch{\"o}pfliche Dynamik, die die Beziehungen zwischen Raum, Zeit und Materie konfiguriert und rekonfiguriert. Indem sie die Intra-Aktivit{\"a}t erkl{\"a}rt, entlarvt Barad Fragen dar{\"u}ber, wie Natur und Kultur interagieren und sich im Laufe der Zeit ver{\"a}ndern, als grundlegend fehlgeleitet. Und sie formuliert ein neues Verst{\"a}ndnis der Natur wissenschaftlicher und politischer Praktiken und ihrer "Wechselbeziehung". So widmet sie der verantwortungsvollen Praxis der Wissenschaft besondere Aufmerksamkeit und betont Ver{\"a}nderungen im Verst{\"a}ndnis politischer Praktiken, wobei sie Judith Butlers einflussreiche Theorie der Performativit{\"a}t kritisch {\"u}berarbeitet. Schlie{\ss}lich nutzt Barad den agentiellen Realismus, um eine neue Interpretation der Quantenphysik zu entwickeln, und zeigt, dass der agentielle Realismus mehr ist als ein Mittel, um {\"u}ber Wissenschaft zu reflektieren; er kann genutzt werden, um tats{\"a}chlich Wissenschaft zu betreiben. ___________________________ Meeting the Universe Halfway is an ambitious book with far-reaching implications for numerous fields in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. In this volume, Karen Barad, theoretical physicist and feminist theorist, elaborates her theory of agential realism. Offering an account of the world as a whole rather than as composed of separate natural and social realms, agential realism is at once a new epistemology, ontology, and ethics. The starting point for Barad{\textquoteright}s analysis is the philosophical framework of quantum physicist Niels Bohr. Barad extends and partially revises Bohr{\textquoteright}s philosophical views in light of current scholarship in physics, science studies, and the philosophy of science as well as feminist, poststructuralist, and other critical social theories. In the process, she significantly reworks understandings of space, time, matter, causality, agency, subjectivity, and objectivity. In an agential realist account, the world is made of entanglements of {\textquotedblleft}social{\textquotedblright} and {\textquotedblleft}natural{\textquotedblright} agencies, where the distinction between the two emerges out of specific intra-actions. Intra-activity is an inexhaustible dynamism that configures and reconfigures relations of space-time-matter. In explaining intra-activity, Barad reveals questions about how nature and culture interact and change over time to be fundamentally misguided. And she reframes understanding of the nature of scientific and political practices and their {\textquotedblleft}interrelationship.{\textquotedblright} Thus she pays particular attention to the responsible practice of science, and she emphasizes changes in the understanding of political practices, critically reworking Judith Butler{\textquoteright}s influential theory of performativity. Finally, Barad uses agential realism to produce a new interpretation of quantum physics, demonstrating that agential realism is more than a means of reflecting on science; it can be used to actually do science.}, keywords = {Feminismus, Materie, Philosophie, Theorie, Wissenschaft}, issn = {978-0-8223-3901-4}, author = {Barad, Karen} }
