Die Photographie ist ein verführerisches Medium. Nicht nur, das sie die Wirklichkeit schönt und mit Aura wie mit einem Firnis überzieht. Sie erscheint außerdem, weil maschinell produziert, viel eher ein spontanes Produkt zu sein als Malerei oder Skulptur. Es fällt uns schwerer, in ihr die parteiliche Sprache und das subjektive Denken eines Autors aufzuspüren. Brian McKee zeigt uns repräsentative Ruinen: Paläste, die der Krieg (in Afghanistan) mit der Sowjetunion so zerstört hat, dass sie nicht mehr genutzt werden. Wir sehen Treppenaufgänge, Säulenhallen, Fensternischen. Scheinbar handelt es sich um Dokumente, tatsächlich entstehen sorgfältig komponierte Bilder, die zur Realität in heimliche, doch provokante Distanz gerückt sind. In dieser Distanz sehen wir den Autor am Werk und bewerten seine künstlerischen Entscheidungen.....

Photography is an alluring medium. Not only does it brighten reality and coat it with an aura like vanish. Produced by machines, it also appears much more spontaneous than paintings and scultures. We find it more difficult to detect the biased language and the subjective way of thinking of an author therein. Brian McKee shows us prestigious ruins: Places, which were badly destroyed in the war (of afghanisthan) with the Soviet Union) and are no longer used today. We can see staircases, porticoes, reveals. Apparently these are documets, but in fact carefully composed pictures are created, which have moved away into away into a secret, and yet provocative distance to reality. In this distance we can see the author at work and judge his artistic decisions......
